Have you received a Bradford Council parking fine? Now you’re left wondering if you can ignore the fine or if you should pay. It’s important to know what will happen if you ignore the fine before making your decision. I’ll be sharing that information along with how to make a payment if you decide paying is the better option.

Do You Have to Pay?

In many circumstances, parking tickets are not enforceable.

It’s a bit sneaky, but last time I had a parking fine, I paid £5 for a trial to chat with an online solicitor.

Not only did I save £50 on solicitor fees, I also won my case and didn’t have to pay my £271 fine.

You can try it out now, just remember to cancel the trial once you’ve got your answer.

What is a Bradford Council Parking Fine?

A Bradford Council Parking fine is called a Penalty Charge Notice, or PCN. The council issues a parking fine to anyone parking illegal on land owned by the council. They can also issue the PCN for certain driving offences, including driving in a bus lane. Penalty Charge Notices can be left on your vehicle or sent through the mail.

How Much is a Parking Fine?

The amount you must pay will depend on the seriousness of the offence you were charged for. The lowest amount is set at £50, the higher at £70. You can learn more about the offence you were charged for by using the Bradford council PCN website.

What Happens If You Don’t Pay a Parking Fine?

If you choose to ignore the Bradford council parking fine you risk owing more money and visits from bailiffs, now called enforcement agents. You have 28 days to pay the PCN, if you don’t pay within that time, you may receive a NtO (Notice to Order), which is a statutory notice. You’ll have a further 28 days to pay, after which the fine is increased by 50% and you’ll be sent a Charge Certificate.

If you continue to ignore the fine after a Charge Certificate the council will register the charge with the Traffic Enforcement Centre. The amount you owe will increase by £8 and legal action can be taken against you to recover the charges. Be aware that additional fees are applied once enforcement agents are used.

Can I Pay Less Than My Parking Fine?

If the PCN relates to a parking contravention you can receive a 50% discount if you pay within 14 days. Therefore a £70 fine is reduced to £35, and a £50 fine is only £25.

If the PCN relates to bus lane and approved device contraventions, you can receive a 50% discount if you make payment within 21 days of receiving the fine.

After passing the time limits for the set conventions you have up to 28 days to pay the parking fine from Bradford council. You will have to pay the full cost of the charge as the discount period no longer applies.

Bradford Council Parking Fine Enforcement

If you receive visits or letters giving notice of an upcoming visit from an enforcement agent, you can still make payment and stop the agents from seizing your goods. I have plenty of information available if you are unsure about your rights or the best course of action to follow when dealing with bailiffs.

The council ask you to contact the relevant agent which will be found on the letters sent informing you about the enforcement agents. The contact details for each of the agents used by the council are as follows:

  • Jacobs: 0845 601 2692
  • Phoenix: 0844 824 3884

Bradford Council will still accept a payment. However, you will also need to pay the additional fees. These are fees incurred when a case is passed to an enforcement agent.

How to Pay a Bradford Council Parking Fine

Payment is the best way to avoid increased costs and visits from enforcement agents. As I previously mentioned, it is possible to pay a discounted rate if you pay within 14 or 21 days, depending on your PNC. However, you have 28 days in total to pay, you just lose out on the discounted rate once you pass the time limit.

Use the Bradford PCN payment service if you are happy to pay online. Enter the PCN number to view the fine and follow the online steps to make a payment using a credit or debit card.

Pay Your Parking Fine Using Cash

Bradford parking fines can be paid in person using cash only. You can pay at any Post Office or shop that offers PayPoint services. These payments must be made using cash only.

Pay a PCN By Post

The final option is to pay the parking fine by post. Bradford Council accepts cheques or Postal Orders providing they are made out to Bradford Council. The address to send the payment to is Payments, PO Box 1249, Bradford, BD1 9YW.
