Do You Have to Pay?

In some circumstances, you might have a legitimate reason not to pay your parking fine.

It’s a bit sneaky, but the last time I needed legal advice, I paid £5 for a trial to chat with an online solicitor called JustAnswer.

Not only did I save £50 on solicitor feeds, I also won my case and didn’t have to pay my £271 fine.

Should I pay a Local Parking Security Ltd fine?

This depends on whether the parking ticket was issued correctly and you deserve it. But first, you should check that the details on the ticket are correct. Next, make sure you were sent the fine within the acceptable time.

This is 14 days after the alleged parking infringement.

You can pay the parking ticket online, or you can call LPS on their payment line, which is 0844 474 0904 and pay by debit or credit card. You can also pay by cheque and send it to their Warwickshire address.

You should challenge the fine if you think the parking ticket was unjustly issued or the information on it is incorrect. But if it’s all correct, you may have to pay. The good news is that when you pay within 14 days, the amount is discounted by 40%.

What happens when you ignore a Local Parking Security Ltd fine?

LPS could pass your details to a debt collection agency if you ignore the parking ticket. First, you’ll receive payment reminders which are sent to the registered keeper. A private operator can access the info from the DVLA!

Next, LPS could contact a debt collector to recover the amount owed. Unfortunately, this may incur further costs! Finally, Local Parking Security could take you to court to recover the debt.

My advice? Never ignore a parking ticket on private land. The operator may not take you to court, but there’s no guarantee they won’t.

Can I appeal a Local Parking Security Ltd fine?

You have the right to appeal a Local Parking Security Ltd fine. But this must be done within 28 days of receiving a notice. That said, check on the ticket to confirm how long you have to file an appeal.

You can write a letter of appeal to the operator using their address in Warwickshire, which is:

Local Parking Security Ltd

P.O. Box 6321

Warwick

Warwickshire

CV34 9QB

Or you can send an email to [email protected].

You must provide the following info when you appeal parking charge notice:

  • The reference number on the parking ticket
  • Your vehicle registration number

You should receive a decision within 14 days.

Getting the support of a Solicitor can take a huge weight off your mind.

What happens when an appeal is rejected?

The operator notifies you in a Letter of Rejection. You have the right to appeal to POPLA when you’re unhappy with the decision.

Note: The operator must, by law, provide you with information regarding Ombudsman Services. But LPS does not participate in their dispute resolution service.

Does Local Parking Security Ltd use a debt collection agency?

Yes. Local Parking Security Ltd could use a debt collection agency to recover the amount you owe.

I suggest you either appeal the parking ticket or pay it within 14 days to prevent things from escalating to this extent.

Hire a Parking Solicitor for less than a coffee.

Can Local Parking Security Ltd start legal proceedings for an unpaid fine?

Yes, they can. They have the right under Contractual Law to pursue you for the money. Providing the ticket was correctly issued, that is!

There’s no guarantee they won’t start legal proceedings; if they do, you’ll have to attend court to argue your case.

In short, you’ll need a good excuse and proof the parking charge notice was incorrectly issued or just plain wrong.

You’ll have to pay the fine when a court rules in favour of LPS. The good news is that fines on private land are capped. But you’ll have missed out on paying a lower amount.
