How debt help works

See how the enquiry works, who may contact you and how costs are explained.

MoneyNerd introduces you to The Debt Advice Service. We do not provide debt advice or recommend a debt solution.

  • Free TDAS debt advice
  • Solution fees may apply
  • No obligation to take a solution

MoneyNerd and The Debt Advice Service are commercial businesses.

If your introduction goes ahead, MoneyNerd Limited shares your details and answers with The Debt Advice Service after you submit the completed form, so they can contact you about your enquiry. MoneyNerd Limited may receive a referral fee from The Debt Advice Service if you go ahead with a debt solution following our introduction.

Some debt solutions involve fees and may negatively affect your credit rating. You can also find free debt advice through MoneyHelper.

    Complete your enquiry

Answer the questions and tell us how to contact you. Read the contact information on the form before submitting.

You do not have to accept a debt solution. Ask about the costs, risks and alternatives before making a decision.

A few things you may want to know

Will I have to pay?

There is no charge for MoneyNerd’s introduction or for debt advice from The Debt Advice Service.

If you choose a debt solution, your application may continue through TDAS’s in-house insolvency practitioner or another provider. TDAS may receive payment for its work. Some debt solutions have fees, which depend on the solution and provider.

Before deciding, ask who will provide the solution, what fees apply, how they are calculated and what they cover. Making an enquiry does not commit you to a debt solution.

Who will contact me, and how?

If your introduction goes ahead, The Debt Advice Service may contact you by phone, email, text message or WhatsApp about your enquiry, as explained on the form and subject to your contact permissions.

MoneyNerd’s follow-up is limited to emails about your enquiry and how to access debt advice. Making an enquiry does not, by itself, give permission for unrelated marketing. Read the contact information on the form before submitting.

What kinds of debt help are available?

Debt help can include repayment arrangements, temporary protections and formal insolvency options. The choices and rules differ across the UK. Each option has its own conditions, possible costs and consequences.

This page does not assess which option is suitable for you. A debt adviser needs to understand your finances before making a recommendation.

Could a solution affect my credit rating?

Yes. Some debt solutions can negatively affect your credit rating and have other consequences. These depend on the solution and your circumstances. An adviser should explain the relevant risks before you decide.

Who will receive my information?

If your introduction goes ahead, MoneyNerd Limited shares your contact details and answers with The Debt Advice Service after you submit the completed form, so they can contact you about your enquiry. Read the contact wording on the form and both privacy policies for details of how information is collected, shared and retained.
