Some Morses Club loans transferred to Lantern; the remaining loan book was written off. Check the administrator’s updates and your account notice.

What happened to Morses Club?

Morses Club Limited and Shelby Finance Limited, which traded as Dot Dot Loans, entered administration on 17 November 2023. They stopped new lending. The FCA’s update of 23 June 2026 confirms that Morses Club’s former websites, email addresses and phone numbers no longer operate. Shelby Finance was dissolved on 19 February 2025.

Use the administration information linked by the FCA for updates, rather than an old lender website or app. Dot Dot Loans was an online lender; its position should not be assumed to be identical to the Morses home-collected loan business.

Do I still need to repay my loan?

The Morses Club administrators say part of the outstanding loan book was legally assigned to Lantern Debt Recovery Services on 8 March 2024. The remaining loan book was written off, with no further payments to Morses Club required on those loans from 7 March 2024.

Check the email or letter concerning your own loan. Do not assume every loan was sold, every balance was cancelled, or that the same outcome applies to a separate Dot Dot Loans account. If someone asks for payment, verify the current creditor and balance before changing payment details.

How the introduction works

The Debt Advice Service can discuss your circumstances and explain available options, including their benefits, costs and risks.

Options depend on your circumstances. You decide whether to proceed.

What about my credit record?

The administrators say Lantern manages credit-file reporting for the loans assigned to it. For loans written off in the remaining book, they said the records would be updated to reflect that outcome. Administration alone does not mean every record of a paid loan disappears or that a score must improve.

Check the relevant credit reports. If a balance, payment history or account status is wrong, dispute it with the organisation reporting the entry and the credit-reference agency. Keep the assignment or write-off letter as evidence.

Will I receive compensation?

Morses Club’s 2023 Scheme of Arrangement terminated when the administrators were appointed. The administration and any Early Termination Fund distribution are separate from a promise that every former customer will be paid.

The administrators’ published update says no dividend is expected for ordinary unsecured claims in the administration. It describes a possible Early Termination Fund distribution for eligible redress claims of less than 0.9p per pound, potentially nil. Check their latest reports for the applicable process and any further developments; do not treat that estimate as a guaranteed payment.

Option How it works Key limits and risks
Debt management plan Informal repayment of eligible non-priority debts through an affordable budget. Creditors need not agree, freeze interest or stop court action. Fees apply with some providers; free providers exist.
IVA Formal agreement covering eligible debts and accepted through the creditor voting process. Fees, credit effects, asset/equity terms and failure risks apply. Payments and term depend on the agreed proposal.
DRO (England and Wales) Normally 12 months of protection before qualifying debts are discharged if the order remains in force. Current qualifying-debt limit £50,000; strict income, asset, vehicle and residence conditions. Homeowners are not eligible. Application is through an approved adviser to the Insolvency Service, not a court.
Bankruptcy (England and Wales) Formal insolvency that can discharge qualifying debts. Assets and employment may be affected. Discharge is usually after 12 months, but income payments may continue for up to 3 years.
Consolidation loan New borrowing to repay selected existing debts. Does not write off debt. Fees or a longer term can increase the total paid; secured borrowing puts your home at risk.
Agreed payment break or reduced payments A temporary arrangement negotiated with the creditor. Interest may continue, credit reporting can be affected, and the debt remains. Terms require agreement.
Informal negotiation Ask creditors for affordable payments or a settlement. Acceptance is not guaranteed; record terms in writing. Priority bills still need separate attention.
Equity release Eligible homeowners may access property value through a lifetime mortgage or home reversion. Reduces the estate and may affect benefits or care funding. Requires specialist advice and comparison of alternatives.

A complaint is not an automatic debt write-off. Keep any existing decision, claim reference and account documents. Follow the administrator’s current guidance rather than an old scheme deadline or a claim that compensation remains universally available.

Where can I get help?

If Lantern or another verified creditor is pursuing a loan you cannot afford, explain your circumstances and ask for affordable support. A free debt adviser can help check the balance, correspondence and options. Do not pay a claims company or a person contacting you unexpectedly merely because they promise a refund or faster payment.
