Not only did I save £50 on solicitor feeds, I also won my case and didn’t have to pay my £271 fine.

How can I appeal a non-endorsable fixed penalty notice?

There are no formal processes for appealing a fixed penalty notice, but you still have the right to appeal them

If you do not believe that the FPN was issued fairly, you can take the matter to court to be decided

Keep in mind that the court process can be long and costly – so make sure you get some legal advice.

The court might decide that you are guilty and may increase the amount of the fine

To appeal your non-endorsable fixed penalty notice, here is what might be considered good grounds for appeal:

  • You did not commit the offence (it was committed by someone else in your car)
  • The fault was not yours, aka there was no other action that could be taken in those circumstances
  • No offence was committed, and the FPN was incorrectly issued
  • Extenuating circumstances that impacted the ability of the person so they couldn’t comply with the law
  • It is not in the best public interest

Although other circumstances might be considered, it is a good idea that you also have evidence to support your appeal.

How do I challenge an FPN?

You must request the case goes to court if you want to challenge an FPN.

By not accepting the fine, you will be redirected to court and a judge will decide whether you have to pay the FPN or not.
