Could you legally write off some debt?

Who Is Calling From 01782971401?

When you receive regular calls from a debt collector, and these calls come daily, usually in the early evening, it will likely be one of the larger agencies such as PRA Group or Lowell FInancial. These debt collectors use an automated system to make thousands of calls a day. It won’t be an agent picking up the phone and dialling your number, it will be a computer system. The only time a real person will be involved in this process, is if you answer the call. The system will then redirect you to a live agent. In the case of 01782971401, it is Advantis Credit that is calling you.

Why Is Advantis Debt Collection Calling You?

Advantis debt collectors will be calling you because a creditor has failed to get you to pay a debt that you owe. The creditor will have sanctioned Advantis to collect the debt on their behalf. Either by acting as an intermediary or transferring the debt to Advantis entirely.

The company wants to make contact with you to try and arrange a repayment schedule for the debt. Keep in mind though, that debt collectors are not on your side, despite what they might publish on their websites. The only way a debt collector makes a profit is if they can get you to pay up. Because of this, they sometimes act in harassing or threatening ways, to try to scare you into paying up. Don’t fall for this. Every collection agency is heavily regulated, and if they cross the line between simply chasing a debt and harassing you, then you are within your rights to complain. We will explain this process a little later in this post.

What Happens if You Don’t Speak to Advantis

You may already know that if you can manage to go 6 years without having any contact at all with the legal entity that is collecting a debt, you may be able to write the debt off. However, in reality, this is very hard to do in modern times, as debt collectors have a far greater range of tools at their disposal than they did even just a decade ago.

» TAKE ACTION NOW: Fill out the short debt form

Additionally, the chance of getting to the 6-year mark without legal proceedings being started against you is very slim. The repercussions of such proceedings could include money being taken from your pay, you being declared bankrupt, or being forced to sell your home.

How To Stop Advantis From Calling You

If you want to stop 01782971401 from calling you, there is a pretty straightforward process you can follow, based on the fact that harassment of any kind is considered a criminal offence in the UK.

First, you need to find out who the original creditor is/was. Once you have done this, you need to collect evidence to prove that Advantis has been harassing you. Examples of valid evidence include:

  • All of the letters and documents Advantis has sent you.
  • A log of the dates and times of phone calls you received from 01782971401.
  • Witness statements from friends, family members or neighbours.

Once you have done this, send a letter to the creditor (keep a copy and send the original by registered post. Tell them that you want the harassment to stop, and tell them how you prefer they contact you in the future. Once you have done this, the creditor must, within three working days, give you an informal reply. At this stage, they must also inform the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) that you have lodged a complaint against them. This should be enough to stop the constant phone calls.
